Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy was created in line with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and applies to Susan Horsnell's website  blog and newsletter

While this legislation formally applies only to European citizens at this time, we choose to apply it to everyone we deal with.

We respect your privacy

This privacy policy explains how Susan Horsnell uses personal data on our sites and in our newsletter. The privacy policy is effective from 25 May 2018. Please look over it.

Here is some information on our policies:

  • Why we process personal data and what we use it for

When a user signs up for our newsletter we collect data. Susan never shares this information with anyone for any reason. Susan will only use the data to create newsletters keeping you informed of news, reviews, sales, releases, etc from either author.

New subscribers will be prompted to resubscribe to newsletters every three years.

Mailchimp also holds data on it’s files including your email address and the name up signed up with. There could also be an indication of why a subscriber signed up (for example, in a promotion for a particular series to enable targeted marketing for a new release in that series).

When you sign up to the newsletter through hyperlinks on the website, Wix will hold your name and email address to facilitate sending you updates whenever something is added to the site.

In circumstances where you sign up or engage in a contest through Rafflecopter, that site will hold your name, email address and the IP address you entered the contest with. Postal addresses may be collected for signed paperbacks/swag giveaways, but then deleted after the prize has been posted.

  • Third party tracking

We embed content from Mailchimp and collect information for our email list.

  • What counts as personal data? 

Personal data is any information that can be used to identify someone, whether through direct or indirect means, including commonly used online identifiers such as cookies and location data. On this site:

  1. The consent box in email subscriptions is not pre-ticked by default.

  2. We gather emails to enable us to send out newsletters.

  3. Consent for cookie usage is now included in any signups.

  4. A user’s information is not shared with any third-party promoters.

  5. Before users can leave a comment, we will get consent by using a checkbox and disclose that this site will store comments and information relating to the comment such as the date and computer’s IP address. This data is not used in any way by Susan.

  • Right of access

You have the right to access your personal data and to know how it is being processed.

EU data subjects also have a right to be forgotten. If you are an EU data subject, you may request to have all your data deleted from a server or transferred to another company.

If there is a breach of personal data we will notify the Supervisory Authority within 72 hours, unless the breach is harmless and poses no risk to an individual. If a breach is concluded to be high risk, Susan. will inform the individual as well.

  • Personal addresses 

If you buy or win signed paperbacks or swag from Susan. we will collect your name, address and email. This data is held in secure files and is not shared with anyone outside of Susan. and the postal company who delivers the parcel. The data is deleted from our servers after the items have been sent out.

  • How to contact Susan about your data privacy

  • Subscribing to newsletters

Newsletters are only sent out on a six weekly basis. This may contain competition details and we may collect your data for delivery of any prize won.

  • Unsubscribing from newsletters

Subscribers can opt out of newsletters at any time. At the bottom of every newsletter there is an option to unsubscribe. Followers of any Wix or Social Media platform can unfollow at any time.
